The party were devastated at the loss of their companion, Toliyrath, and drank late into the night at the Orc’s Head. In a bizarre twist of fate as they were deep in their cups and their sorrow seemed deepest an old friend of Johann and Thangrimm arrived. The newcomer—an elf improbably named Alice was accompanied by the gruff dwarven warrior Wrag. The two had come to Languard to see their old friends and they were welcomed into the group with open arms.

After protracted discussions—and an attempt at renegotiating the deal for the dragonhead ship’s figurehead—the party were no closer to reaching agreement with the beautiful sea nymph Luestiss. Several of the heroes believed whoever spent the week with her would not survive the experience and none were willing to bravely sacrifice themselves for the figurehead.

With the seaweed monster slain, the party searched through its slimy, noisome lair. The party found little but driftwood and a torn sail until Jeremiah stumbled upon a small locked coffer. It had resisted the sea’s onslaught well and thwarted the skilled thief’s attempts to open it. Eventually, the party gave up and simply smashed it open to get at the coins—silver and gold—within.

The two surviving, hideously deformed humans fled down the narrow passageway and some of the party gave chase. The passageway twisted and turned and eventually came out into the room featuring the low cyclopean wall surrounding the shaft leading deep down into the Mottled Spire’s living rock.

Making their final preparations, the party crept closer to the door leading into the manor’s single tower. Sadly, they were not stealthy— Thangrimm in particular making a tremendous amount of noise as he moved into position. A quasi-feminine shriek came from inside the tower, “Go away, or I will kill you!” Of course, this threat did little to deter the brave and heroic adventurers and so Orm—confident in his own prowess and general manliness—entered the tower to speak with the shrieking harridan within.
